DTN COMMENTS:  The country is typically quiet this afternoon, with bids 
and asking prices yet to be established and significant trade volume will 
likely be delayed until Wednesday or later. New showlists appear to be 
mixed, somewhat larger in Kansas, larger in Texas, but lower in 
Nebraska/Colorado. 

Today's slaughter totaled 121,000 head, 1,000 more than last week, but 
2,000 smaller than a year ago. Cattle futures closed moderately to sharply 
higher, up 22 to 115, while feeders ended the day mostly moderately 
higher, upf75 to off 7. Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed with 
generally light box movement.
